Day Three Hundred Forty-One: Table Football

Max has really been enjoying his copy of The Dangerous Book for Boys lately. And, today he let me be in on one of the projects. He taught me how to play table football with quarters, and we played for close to an hour and had so much fun!

Day Three Hundred Twenty: Game Pieces Amongst the Firewood

This is really a very silly First, but it was a pretty low-key day lacking in novelty. When I started this project, I imagined all the Firsts would be interesting and exciting, but that isn't always the case, and that's okay. While the sensational Firsts are certainly more fun to experience and write about, there can still be joy in appreciating even the smallests of Firsts. My First for today was looking for game pieces in the wood bin under the fireplace. Personally, I would never have even thought to store games in that location, and I certainly wouldn't have guessed I'd be moving logs around, trying to find little letter-covered dice. But trying to find ways to entertain two little boys whose ski legs have given out will inspire a mom to do any number of things she might not otherwise do.

Day Two Hundred Thirty-Eight: New Homeschool Group and a Date with Clay

Since we moved here, we have not been involved with any homeschool groups except CC, but today some of us went to a teen/tween game day at a coffee shop in Lewisville with a local homeschool group. It's always good to meet new people, and I think the kids had a pretty good time.

I also got to go out on a date with just Clay tonight, which may have happened before, but he was sure we had never been on a date before, "just us," and I really can't remember, so we're going to count it.

Day Two Hundred Twenty: Box Hockey

There was a high chance of rain for today, so we decided to just hang around the KOA, enjoying some of its amenities. We ended up getting only about 30 minutes of rain, and the rest if the day was gorgeous, so in addition to playing many board games, we also got in lots of playing outside. We played family games if H-O-R-S-E and Knockout, frisbee, tetherball, and box hockey, which I had never even heard of and had certainly never played. It took me a little while to get the hang of it, but I didn't get beat too badly. I did have a lot of laughs and got to hang out with some of my favorite people, so that part was definitely a win!

Day Two Hundred Eleven: Cards at Kimzey's

After we dropped Weston off at his Scout campout in Denton, we stopped at Kimzey's Coffee in Argyle on our way home. It is housed in a whimsical cottage reminiscent of something from a fairy tale. We had coffees and teas and played cards for a couple of hours. We always enjoy finding new and interesting places to hang out, and Kimzey's is a jewel!

Day One Hundred Eighty-Two: Red Horn Coffee House and Brewing Co.

After Weston's basketball game this morning and lunch with my mom afterward, Weston and I found ourselves with no other plans for the day. I took him by the first house Jeff and I ever owned, but that wasn't much of a time filler. So I hopped on Google Maps to explore my area and found a fun coffee house and brewery, where Weston and I spent several very enjoyable hours this afternoon playing board games and enjoying some snacks and drinks. It was such a great place to hang out with my game loving guy!

Day One Hundred Seventy-Eight: Laser Tag

In lieu of a big birthday party, Max chose to just invite one good friend to Main Event, and we finally found a day that both the friend and we were available. Aside from being the responsible adult in charge, my objective was to knock out my First for the day. I made that happen with a round of laser tag. It was so much fun, and especially so since I got to share the experience with all my kiddos!

Day One Hundred Fourteen: Escape Room

We've been wanting to try an escape room for a while, and tonight we finally got our chance. We had given Ruth tickets for her half-birthday to be used tonight while the boys had other engagements. The room we were in was designed for eight people, but no one else booked this particular room, so we had it all to ourselves. We had so much fun trying to solve the puzzles, but unfortunately we couldn't solve all of them in our allotted hour. We are already looking forward to our next escape room experience.

Afterwards, we had another first experience at Flower Mound's new ice cream sandwich shop. And, we are already looking forward to our next experience with that as well!

Day Sixty: iota

We love to play board games, but sometimes with all we have going on, it's hard to find the time to sit down and play them. We recently purchased a new game, which none of us had played before, and today we finally had a chance to try it out. Iota is "the great big game in the teeny-weeny tin," which has players matching up cards in lines of no more than four in a variety of tricky ways. It was a really fun way to pass the afternoon and a great little First.
